oung musicians who already play a string instrument will receive instruction on learning to play traditional American music, music that is fun, invigorating, and part of our national heritage. Participants will also have the option of learning to play traditional 'fiddle music' instruments, such as the mandolin, ukulele, and guitar. Classes will include basic 'fiddle' music instruction, understanding how 'fiddle' music works (music theory), and both large group and small band performing. The camp will conclude with a Friday evening Barn Dance for all participants, their family and friends. Plenty of music and dancing for everyone!
Fiddle Camp will be held at the home of the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony Association - Global Village Academy, 1702 N. Murray.
Jody is joined by Liz Masterson at Calhan Country Church for an evening of bluegrass, acoustic and cowgirl-gospel.
Liz's bio is below:
Liz Masterson, a Denver native and award winning singer, began performing Western music in 1982 and was quickly recognized as a “trail blazer” for the revival of this art form. A founding Board Member of the Western Music Association, Liz Masterson’s roots run deep and true in the “cowboy culture”.
Her distinctive singing voice, yodeling and sense of humor has won her national acclaim as she tours the country as a solo performer and teacher of the traditional art forms of yodeling, swing and western music. Liz was named the 1998 Western Music Female Performer of the Year and also received the Patsy Montana Cowgirl Award in 2000.
In 2006 she appeared on the Discovery Channels’ “Myth Busters.” She demonstrated her yodeling skills during an episode on avalanches. Also, in 2006 Liz joined the group known as Sweethearts in Carhartts, which includes poet, Yvonne Hollenbeck and singer, Jean Prescott, who started the group.
Specializing in concerts, educational programs for kids and/or adults, folk festivals, agricultural events and cowboy poetry gatherings, Liz’ is quick wit and spontaneous interaction with the audience makes her a natural Master of Ceremonies. She has entertained at the prestigious Smithsonian Institution, the Lincoln Center in New York, the Kennedy Center and the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada. She has shared the stage with the greatest western entertainers in the genre, including, Dale Evans, Patsy Montana, Don Edwards and Riders in the Sky, just to mention a few.

June 5-6, 2015 we will celebrate 20 years as Wheatland Conference Center and the Prairie Trails Lodge will be 100 years old.
Friday the 5th we will host a private banquet for the legacy members, then on Saturday we will have an all day festival with a quilt show, antique car show, carnival, crafts, singing, and plenty of hamburgers and hot dogs.
